Underscore Dance Lab is an interdisciplinary partnership between Shakira Rae Adams and Jacquelyn S. Corcoran. Rooted in modern/post modern dance ideals and cross disciplinary styles and skill sets, perspectives and experience. We seek to explore, we seek to learn and find our own discomforts and limitation. We learn and we re-learn and we use that in combination with our passion for the human body’s capacity to communicate in a universal language. Through the cross discipline of culturally diverse dance styles, improvisation and formal dance education, we create from exploration and research investigation.
Our work is our research that we have manifested into our bodies and movements. From a fully produced evening length work to behind the scenes improvised moments, it is all just one more step in the research of our somatic investigations. Underscore Dance Lab uses a combination of modern dance physicality, improvisation, theatricality, technological media, film, ariel arts, music and other artistic disciplines to create. Underscore Dance Lab emerges itself into any media that best adapts to the artistry at hand. We are a dance company that refuses to limit our ability to create and experience to just one mode of artistry. We continue our personal developments by challenging ourselves to step outside of our own realm of expertise and learn new skill sets that enable us to express and experience further and deeper. Underscore Dance Lab is an experimental, collaborative and investigative pursuit.
